1. Include a Resume Summary

If you have been out of the job-hunting game for a long time, chances are your resume still has an ‘objective’ section. If your current resume has one, the first thing you’ll need to do is get rid of this field.

Replace it with a resume summary field. In this field, you can write an impactful statement. It should provide a brief overview of your skills and experiences.

The goal of this statement is to catch the attention of the employer. Include key achievements.

2. Focus on the Education Section

The education section must start with the most recent and relevant education. Include any degrees and certificates and write the name of the institution(s) where you got them.

In this section, you can also list any licenses you have. You may add a list of coursework that is relevant to the job you’re applying for.

3. Professional History

Make sure to update your professional history, as this is an area that the employer will focus on. Only include relevant work history.

The goal is to help the employer get a complete picture of your professional history. This section should be easy to skim through.

4. Skills Section

This section will showcase the skills you have. Make sure to include skills that are relevant to the job you’re applying for.

Pay attention to the level of expertise that you outline for each skill. If you speak another language, you may want to put that you’re a proficient speaker.

Do you know how to use a special type of software? You can state you’re an expert-level user of the software. Be sure to highlight your skills.
