If you’re recruiting for new staff, a killer website will help attract high quality applicants, whether you’re hiring for your own company or others. Follow these easy tips for quality web design that will bring in the applicants you need.
- Hire a web design company, like Red Spot Design, to create a recruitment website that is well designed, easy to use and modern. Bringing in the professionals will make for a better site than one you’ve tried to build yourself.
- Create quality content. Google’s recent updates look for engaging content, so it’s even more important to have. Strong content will help your site rank better on search engines, and will look good to potential applicants. Perhaps add a site blog, and write quality guides like resume tips, interview advice or ideas for workwear.
- Make sure your new site functions properly on mobile devices. 51% of web browsing time is now done on mobiles, and Google penalises sites that don’t work on mobile. Make sure fonts are readable on a smaller screen, the design responds to different screen sizes and that any links are obvious and easily clickable.
- Imagery is important on any website. People tend to pay more attention to visuals when they arrive on a site. Use high quality stock imagery to save money, or invest in actual photography, animations or other eye catching visuals.
- Concentrate on user experience. UX is an essential part of web design. Make sure that site navigation is easy and intuitive, and that tools like the search bar are obvious to find as soon as you land on the site. Poor UX will put people off, and they’ll leave the site before applying for a job with you. Make sure any links are obvious, so you keep applicants on site and looking around.
- Don’t forget about web security. If you’re asking applicants to upload resumes and other personal information, you need to be sure their details will be secure. Make sure you have a valid security certificate, and keep any firewalls up to date. Don’t leave details stored on the site for longer than necessary and delete any details of unsuccessful applicants to reduce the risk of data mining.
- Make sure your contact details are clearly visible and easy to find. A candidate needs to know how to get in touch if there is a problem coming to interview or another issue, so put your contact details somewhere prominent. If candidates will be coming to your office for interviews, you should also include some directions. Embed Google Maps to show how to reach you, and include some details on the nearest car parks, train stations or bus stops.
- Include an FAQ section. Answer questions on how to send in applications, the recruitment process, interviews or other subjects you get regular questions about. Keep this section up to date and add in any new questions that start to come up.
- Invest in reliable hosting. If your site is crashing or slow to load, it will put off candidates, who won’t want to fight your website just to apply for a job.
