When you have a defined approach in place, it is much easier to keep track of all of the candidates and evaluate them against comparable criteria. It also helps to ensure you are impartial and not put into a position where you could be accused of discrimination.

You are not performing extensive background checks

Examining a candidate’s background is an important part of the hiring process. Most of the time, everything is OK, but there is always the risk that someone who is not legally allowed to work in the country or has a criminal record would apply for a position with your company, which might get you in hot water.

You should also get references from their prior jobs to find out why they left and if there were any issues. If they have any gaps in their employment history or have had a number of jobs in a short period of time, you should find out why.

If you are carrying out thorough background checks, it may be worth looking at the typical background check timeframe, so that you can build it into your recruitment process. 

If you make any of these mistakes in recruitment and hiring, your staff will be less effective than it may be, which will have a long-term negative impact on your firm.
