Good At It…

Whatever you are, be a good one. - Abraham Lincoln

Everyone is different. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.

This makes life interesting and makes the world a place of adventure. It’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to be good at everything. There is a great deal of pressure to be amazing and to be a Jack or Jill of all trades. The problem is that if we do everything, we never truly focus our energies one being good at one thing. We become a “Jack (or Jill) of all trades but a master of none,” as the saying goes. When that happens, we fail to embrace our full potential.

The good news is that you don’t have to be good at everything, you only have to be good at what you are good at:

  • If you are a teacher, be a good teacher.
  • If you clean buildings, clean well.
  • If you are a runner, be a good runner.

It’s not important to be good at everything. It’s only important to be the best at what you do.

The world is not changed by people who do everything. The world is changed by people who are good at one thing.

They have focus and dedication, and they work hard to be the best that they can. That is the true mark of an amazing person. The dedication and hard work are what sets them apart from the rest of the world who live in mediocrity.

Think about people who changed the world.

  • Marie Curie was good with science and medicine.
  • Clara Barton was good at nursing.
  • Albert Einstein was good at math and science.

Each of these people changed the world in amazing ways be being good at what they did.

It did not matter what their jobs were or what others said to or about them. What mattered is that they did their best.

What are you?

  1. Are you a parent?
  2. Are you a teacher?
  3. Are you a neighbor?
  4. Are you a doctor or a nurse?
  5. Are you a leader?

Whatever it is that you are, do it well so that you can change the world. You cannot change the whole world, but you can change someone’s world. This should be your goal!

Your goal is not to be good at everything or to change who you are. Rather, the aim of this is to help you to accept what you do and to encourage you to be the best you that you can be.

  • Where is your passion?
  • What do you enjoy the most in life?

Perhaps you are really good at something even though it is not your passion. Whatever your case, do your best.

The world is not changed by people who can do everything. The world always changes by people who are good at what they do!
