The Role of Social Media For HR Professionals

The first step in getting HR professionals to start incorporating more social media into their businesses begins with removing old beliefs that may be holding them back.

Companies once believed that too much Internet in the workplace would lower productivity, since executives were convinced that workers would spend all day browsing. In many ways, some companies are still fighting with this problem!

It is important to recognize that the right social media strategies and tools will give your company a greater bang for the dollar. And rather unfortunate that many people still think these tools are not worth their time since they are free, even though their company could save so much money on making good use of them.

Getting Started

It is a good idea to get started by opening accounts with social media as soon as you can in order to get your feet firmly planted into the ground. Develop the abilities essential to make use of all the possibilities that social media networking can provide for you and for your company. Seek the help of your colleagues at work, if necessary. Your current employees are probably already networking on these websites and may be wondering why you are not.

Your employees are always interested in finding like-minded individuals that they can help you recruit into the company and these prospective candidates are all on social networks.

Remember to always measure and test the results of your social media campaigns.

Social media involves much more than merely generating a Twitter feed or a Facebook page. All data must first be quantified in order for the entire campaign to be successful.

The strength of a corporate social HR system depends on a continuous inflow of progressive, educated HR professionals participating and contributing to make it work.

Make it Fun!

One of the best ways to engage HR professionals to use social media within their organizations is to create fun games that can motivate their employees. For example, you could create very efficient marketing campaigns by hosting a competition on social media websites such as Twitter or Facebook. Select some prizes, which may be of interest to your employees and motivate them to enter the competition.

You could also offer online badges or other distinctions for reaching peak levels. The viral capabilities of social media platforms will ensure that friends of your employees will also take part. That is how Social Media functions! Always remember to make your competition creative, interesting, and relative to your products and services.

Since the benefits generally outweigh the disadvantages, it’s would be a good idea to find ways to incorporate social HR into your company without further delay.

There really are not many excuses for not having the time to do social HR anymore – as more and more companies jump on the bandwagon.

  • I love that you mention incorporating games so that employees become more interested. Yes, people are still hesitant about social media. I myself have been very hesitant up until a couple of months ago. The fact is, times are changing and we all need to adjust to the new way of doing things. Social Media is extremely effective, as I am learning as I venture into the HR world.

  • I’ve been working as a HR assistant for the last 4 years and we made the switch from seeing the Internet as a huge time-wasting bin to a place where people relax when they feel overworked and then get back to their jobs. We’re a graphic design company and this switch was more than obvious in the creativity area; the employees deliver better work and on time, which is a big success for us.

We thought about creating a Facebook contest were our designers could spoof a news subject they’ve seen that day and our fans could like the image; we would randomly pick a winner and he could get a free design.

  • This is very true. Increasing trend of social media has forced HR professionals to post jobs not only on job portals but on social media as well. This is what people are demanding these days. Even people are promoting their business on social media and giving details about the services which they are offering.
