Taking Care Of Your Remote Working Employees : A Simple Guide

When you are surrounded by a room full of employees, it is pretty easy to judge the mood, level of morale, and whether any issues are going on. However, when your workers are located all over the country, and sometimes the globe, making sure that everything is going to plan can be a lot more complicated. Fortunately, there are some strategies you can use to ensure that your remote workers are well taken care of and that they are as productive as possible.

A topic you can read all about in the post below.

Do offer flexibility.

You may think that offering your employees the chance to work from home or any place in the world they choose is enough flexibility to be going on with. However, those working in this way are usually doing so for a reason. In fact, you will often find that folks working from home are trying to get a better work-life balance by travelling, or spending more time with their families and kids.

To that end, having a very rigid 8am-6pm schedule may not go too well with such employees. Therefore loosening up on when in the day people can work is a smart idea. In fact, for many businesses, it doesn’t actually matter whether something gets done at 9am or 11pm, as long as it is completed!

Although there are some exceptions to this rule, including customer service businesses that need their phone lines attended to in specific shifts.

Do make sure that everyone gets together from time to time.

Even when the majority of your workforce is remote, getting together from time to time can be an excellent idea. In fact, this is for two reasons.

  • The first is that it means that you can talk face to face about the most critical issues to your company. Something that can be very useful indeed, when there is a significant decision to be made.
  • Additionally, getting people together from time to time can really boost morale and help to create a sense of community and belonging. Something that is often working in businesses where the majority of workers are remote.

To that end, having a head office with meeting rooms or finding conference venues that suit your needs is a smart idea. If you want your remote workers to feel well taken care of, that is.

Don’t expect them to be in constant contact.

When you have a remote team to manage, it can be very tempting to encourage as much contact as possible. The reason is that doing so can help you to offer assistance and also ensure that your team is attending to work-related tasks.

However, what you need to remember is that if your employees are engaged in contacting you, they will also be distracted from the work that needs doing.

To that end, not expecting your remote working employees to be in constant contact with the main office is a much better approach. Although, providing a designated contact for them to reach out to whenever they have an issue is a smart idea that will help your remote workers feel well taken care of.
