3 Benefits Employees Really Want
Whether you own your own business, work in management or HR, you already probably know the importance of a satisfied, happy employee. If someone has a fulfilling job, they are more likely to be motivated, be more productive, and put out a higher caliber of work.
One way to not only keep your current employees happy but to attract new talent is to offer a benefits package that people really want. That includes more than just things like health insurance or key man life insurance (though both are important!).
Instead, the benefits employees really want might force you to think outside the box and break away from some of the traditional mindsets you may have about a benefits package.
With that in mind, let’s look at some of the real perks employees are looking for, and how implementing them can benefit your business.
1. A Flexible Schedule
Now, more than ever, flexibility is a huge draw for new hires. Because remote working is becoming so popular, employees don’t want to work the typical 9-5 schedule anymore. In fact, 96% of professionals in the U.S. say they need more flexibility. Unfortunately, fewer than half actually receive it.
You might think that giving your employees more flexibility would result in a lack of productivity, but studies have shown that it’s just the opposite.
When your employees don’t feel pressured and they’re actually happy about their work-life balance, they’re more likely to be productive.
2. Wellness Programs
The health and wellness of your employees should be a top priority for you.
More people are taking care of their health these days, and offering programs at work that encourage healthy living can make your place of employment more attractive to new recruits.
Wellness programs look different for every office. But, you might consider implementing things like:
- Gym memberships to employees
- Encouraging frequent breaks for movement
- Providing free healthy snacks/lunches
- Stress reduction techniques
- On-site massages
Wellness programs should impact your employees’ physical and mental health, so they miss fewer days of work, stay more focused, and feel good about themselves and their job.
3. Adulting Benefits
This generation of workers experiences burnout more than ever before. That’s largely due to technology.
People are working longer, and even working after hours from home. So, some employers have started to introduce ‘adulting benefits’ to cut back on some of the personal stresses of their employees. These include things like:
- Auto services
- Food services
- Child care
- Shopping
- Dry cleaning
- Home services
When an employer encourages a healthy work-life balance for their employees, it’s more likely to make the worker feel more appreciated and understood. Again, a happy worker is productive and loyal.
Is your business working to include some of these unique benefits into your standard package?
If not, it may be time to get a bit more creative with what you’re offering your employees, especially if you want to recruit new talent. There are many companies who are already offering benefits like these, and it’s important for others to do the same in order to remain competitive with top talent.
