If you are an HR manager, or it is a career path that you are considering pursuing, you will need to be aware of the many types of meetings that you are likely going to have with people who work in your business. Being aware of what these are, and preparing for them properly, is going to be a vital part of your work, so it’s something to think about for certain. Here are the four main types of meetings that you will likely need to have at various times, and which you should learn how to carry out properly.
Interview
The first meeting you will ever have with an employee is actually before they are an employee – it’s the interview during the recruitment process. This is obviously hugely important to get right, because it affects the quality of the people that you get on board to work for you.
You also need to make sure that you are treating them right, allowing them to relax but also giving them a chance to show off their credentials. The better you do this, the more likely it is that you are going to get the best team around you, which is important for the sake of the business.
Onboarding
Once a person is accepted into their role, then there comes the onboarding process. This is essentially introducing them to the company, starting to show them the ropes and so on, and it’s something that you will likely be involved in as the HR manager most of the time.
Here you will want to make sure that they feel warmly welcomed, that they are being given a good sense of what to expect and that they have a chance to ask you anything they need to ask you. If so, you can consider it a success.
Pay Disputes
From time to time, someone might have a dispute over their pay. This could be that they think they are not being paid fairly or equitably, or that they just want to ask for a salary raise. Both of these kinds of meetings are going to crop up occasionally, and it’s important that you are treating people fairly and listening to them as you do so.
At the same time, however, you should also be prepared to defend the company, and you might want to take some negotiation training to help you out here.
Disciplinaries
And then there is the type of meeting that nobody wants to go through – the disciplinary. This will inevitably happen sometimes, and when it does it is vital that you are doing all you can to make it work as well as possible.
What does that mean?
Simply that you need to be firm but fair, and to make sure that you follow all the proper protocols as well. As long as you do that, you are going to find that it works out as well as possible for everyone, which is the main thing that you can achieve here.
