Tips For Keeping Your Staff Motivated

As a business owner, it’s important you do what you can to keep your staff motivated. Your staff are the backbone of your company and the better they work, the more efficient your business is and the more profit you will generate. There are many ways you can keep your staff motivated and you want to do it sooner rather than later. This is because unmotivated staff can leave, meaning you need to train up and recruit new members and ruin your overall team dynamic.

Here we have put together some top tips for keeping your staff motivated and happy in your workplace…

Hold team building days

There is nothing like a team-building day to keep your staff motivated and happy. Teamwork is one of the most important things for a happy workplace as it means they will work together, happy to help and encourage each other and pick up the slack when needed.

There are many team building exercises you can do and this can involve the whole company or be specific to a team such as the marketing or sales team. You could have them all take part in an escape room, do an organised sports day or go out for dinner and drinks. The idea is for them to get to know eachother better and build a sense of camaraderie.

Reward staff members for their hard work

There is nothing more demotivating than putting your all into a project at work and getting no recognition for it. If your staff members do something well or have put a lot of effort into a project, make sure to acknowledge this. It could be with a company-wide email, pulling them in for a chat or a monetary bonus.

No matter what you choose, this will really boost their morale and ensure they feel happy and motivated at work. By being recognised they will be much more likely to do the same again in the future, knowing it doesn’t go unnoticed.

Make sure that you are also doing the basic things like making sure they get paid on time. This might not be a massive issue for you, but can assure you that it is one for them. If you need software like restaurant payroll software or the industry specific version for your business, get it asap because they are more likely to work hard if you treat them well. You should then be rewarding them on top of this with little treats and acknowledgement that they are doing a fantastic job.

Encourage them to reach their goals for career progression

When people work for you, they are going to want to progress through the ranks. Speak with your staff to find out where they envision themselves and where they want to be in the company. Once you know what they want to do, speak with them and let them know what it is they need to do to achieve this position.

From Supervisor Trainings and Conferences to attend, to have specific goals they should achieve, by being supportive and encouraging of they won’t want to leave. They will instead want to stay and further their career at a company they know and enjoy.

These are just a few top tips for keeping your staff happy and motivated and should reduce staff turnover for your business. By ensuring your team members are happy and look forward to coming in to work every MOnday instead of dreading it, you’ll have a positive workplace culture to be proud of.
